Only 40 Left To Sell!

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Woodsmoke took on a crazy goal in early January this year and that was to sell 258 scarves by March 9th so that we could educate one of Miriam Kamanthe’s children for a year in Africa. We have worked immensely hard and have received awesome support all over the United States to help accomplish this goal. Thank You. Now we are REALLY close to reaching this goal. I leave to go back to South Africa in 8 days and we have sold 200 scarves and have 58 left to sell. That is 7.25 scarves a day that we need to sell. There are a few ways that you can help me to sell the remaining 58 scarves this week:

  • Purchase a scarf on the Woodsmoke website this week here.
  • Have me come over to your office this week sometime and sell scarves to employees. A bottle of South African wine will be given to the finder.
  • Come up to the Woodsmoke Office and purchase a scarf: in the First National Bank Building downtown on Floor 9

Call or email me if you have any ideas or questions about this cause: sean_coetzee@hotmail.com, call me at 402 617 5675. Thank you for all the continued support!

Cheers,

Sean, Founder Woodsmoke

10 Reasons Why My Business Gives

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

1. True fulfillment comes from incorporating giving into everything you do.

2. As soon as we take the focus off our business or ourselves for a minute and do something for someone else – many problems disappear.

3. In every major religion, giving is one of the key laws to living a happy life.

4. There’s no better feeling on the planet than seeing someones else’s life improve from your efforts.

5. When your business does something that truly gives back the world watches and wants to help. This I guarantee you. I’ve tested it out.

6. Your business cards are printed for free. Ask your printer!

7. Life has a funny way of giving you more the more you give.

8. You obtain the occasional tax break.

9. PR is easier to come by because it is true and it is real.

10. Giving back has been proven to help cure depression.

Indigo Books Signs on To Achieve 258

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Indigo Bridge Books is a quaint and vibey little coffee shop situated in the historic Haymarket District of Lincoln Nebraska.  The reason I go there often is because they have the best cappuccino in Lincoln without a doubt.  The head Barista there is Ross Kunze who makes an amazing cappuccino — perfect foam, does not burn the milk, and the espresso always has a great nutty chocolaty taste to it.  I would definitely recommend going there to anyone who is looking for great espresso.

Indigo Books purchased some Kenyan Scarves from Woodsmoke last week and put their full support behind educating children in Africa.  For every 258 scarves that Woodsmoke sells we are able to educate one child in Africa for one year.  Indigo Books’ brand fits very well with Woodsmoke; here is a little bit about them:

“Indigo Bridge Books is inspired by the power of stories and their ability to shape the lives that we lead, to open our eyes to new possibilities, and to remind us of the things we have in common with the rest of creation.

We’ve all felt burdened by the incredible weight of injustice all around us—human rights concerns, poverty, our relationship to the environment— both in our own communities and worldwide. Indigo Bridge Books is our way of trying to make a difference—a stepping-off point for mobilizing our community and positively impacting people’s lives. The remedy for the problems we face has no simple formula, but we believe it starts with building bridges and connecting people to each other through stories—and we all have plenty of stories.”

Stella + Woodsmoke Support Education in Africa

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Woodsmoke’s first ever customer was Stella Boutique in Lincoln, Nebraska.  They are a trendy, chic, and socially responsible boutique and have helped to get our business off the ground.  They were the first store to start buying our scarves and we have had awesome success with them.  The owners of the boutique are sisters Juliane and Sheila Glasco and have become good friends of ours.  Stella is supporting education in Africa by selling Woodsmoke Scarves – for every scarf that is sold 5 percent of the proceeds go to educating Miriam Kamanthe’s children in Africa.  Here is a little more about Stella:

“On November 2nd, 2006, Stella was born. Once a dream, now turned to reality for us. We; Debra, Sheilah, and Juliane, are the owners and creative directors of Stella. The store was molded out of our personalities. By bringing our best attributes together it makes the presence stronger but more special for our customers. Our mother, Debra, has a passion and eye for interior design. She has a love for both the decor and store displays. Sheilah and I are sisters and the faces of Stella. We share the same excitement for fashion, people and design. The store image and name were derived from our favorite book, Great Expectations.

Stella is a feminine boutique located in the heart of Lincoln’s downtown. We strive to keep an inviting atmosphere and unique merchandise at affordable prices. We hope you LOVE Stella as much as we do!”

Here are a few of the Kenyan Scarves that can be purchased at Stella:

258 To EDUCATE – How Can You Help?

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

We have one goal this spring:

Sell 258 scarves by March 9th to educate one of Miriam Kamanthe’s children for a year.

This spring we would like to give a child in Africa the opportunity to a better life.  Miriam Kamanthe was our first artist that started working with Woodsmoke. She is an amazing person and has built a vibrant little business in Nairobi, Kenya.  Woodsmoke’s goal is to support education in Africa.

Here are a couple of ways the you can get involved in 258 To EDUCATE.

ONE: Host A Woodsmoke Event. You can host an event either at your work, home, or favourite meeting place.  You bring your friends and we will bring the wine, coffee, and African art.  I will come and tell you the story of Woodsmoke and what we are trying to do with education in Africa.  You will get some free products for hosting the event as well.

TWO: Resell Woodsmoke Scarves. The Woodsmoke scarves have a powerful story behind them and basically sell themselves because of what a trendy product they are.  You can become a independent salesman for Woodsmoke and we will give you 15 percent commission on every scarf sold.  You will be able to be a part of a small growing company that has a meaning behind it.  Feel free to email us at woodsmoke@live.com to find out more information.

THREE: Find us a Retailer. Woodsmoke picks its retailers very carefully.  If you know of a shop that would work well with our brand let us know.  If it is a good fit we will throw you a nice finders fee.

FOUR: Blog / Twitter / Facebook about 258 To EDUCATE. We will send you a free scarf for a mention of Woodsmoke scarves.  All you have to do is show us proof that you did it and send us your mailing address.

Let us know how you can help to make a change in the lives of artists and their families in Africa.  Email us woodsmoke@live.com

Situation as of 01/13/10:

Scarves sold: 8

Money raised: $14
